The U.S. Copyright Office is amending its regulations governing the requirements for deposits accompanying paper applications for registration of automated databases that consist predominantly of photographs.
As of August 8, 2012, deposits for such databases must include the image of each photograph in which copyright is claimed as well as (for group registration of revised or updated versions of such databases) the already-required descriptive statement set forth in section 202.20(c)(2)(vii)(D)(5) of Copyright Office regulations.
This deposit requirement was already in place for deposits accompanying online applications for registration of such databases. For further information, see www.copyright.gov/fedreg/77fr40268.pdf.
