August 13, 2008, Arlington, VA – The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) is proud to announce that Q. Todd Dickinson will serve as its new Executive Director. Mr. Dickinson joins AIPLA following the announcement by Mike Kirk that he will officially step down from that position August 31, 2008. Mr. Dickinson will become Executive Director on September 1, 2008.

impact on the future of IP law.”

I look forward to helping the Board and membership meet those challenges, while continuing to provide the highest level of services to our members.”
Mr. Dickinson previously served as Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for the
General Electric Company, where he had corporate responsibility for all intellectual property and
technology licensing matters. He also served, from 1999 to 2001, as Under Secretary of Commerce for
Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. After leaving the USPTO, he became a partner in the law firm of Howrey LLP, where he was a leader of its intellectual property practice.
Mr. Dickinson has served on the Executive Committees of both the American Bar Association Section
of Intellectual Property Law and the Intellectual Property Owners Assn., and has three times been
named one of “The 50 Most Influential People in Intellectual Property” by Managing Intellectual
Property magazine. He is a frequent speaker worldwide, and is a member of the Intellectual Property
Hall of Fame Academy and the Editorial Advisory Board of the BNA’s Patent, Trademark &
Mr. Dickinson earned his B.S. from Allegheny College in 1974 and his J.D. in 1977 from the
University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
